Bonner County Commissioners are slated to discuss their stance on the Scotchman Peaks wilderness proposal at their Tuesday business meeting.

The agenda lists a discussion regarding “opposing” the wilderness designation — something the commissioners said they’d do given the advisory vote reflected county opposition. The final vote was 5,672 against, 4,831 in favor.

In another agenda item, commissioners will discuss requesting the U.S. Forest Service discontinue management of the proposed area as wilderness. USFS started to manage the area as wilderness in 2015 as not to disqualify it for designation, according to Sandpoint District Ranger Erik Walker.

The BOCC regular business meeting is Tuesday at 9 a.m. in the commissioner’s meeting room on the third floor of the Bonner County Administration Building.
