Triple digit temps expected

The National Weather Service released a heat advisory for the panhandle into the weekend, with triple digit temperatures and higher-than-normal humidity expected.

“Very hot” temperatures are expected through Friday, with Thursday’s forecast calling for “lowland areas flirting with record high temperatures,” NWS wrote.

The heat advisory remains in effect from 2 p.m. Wednesday to 8 p.m. Friday. Thursday is predicted to be the hottest day, with several lowland areas calling for highs over 100 degrees.

“The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible,” NWS wrote in a statement.

Relief will come as the weekend begins, with Saturday’s forecast calling for partly cloudly weather with a high of 80 degrees.

NWS recommends staying in air-conditioned areas, drinking plenty of fluids and staying out of the sun during high temperatures. Don’t leave pets and children inside hot cars and check on elderly relatives and neighbors that might be affected by the heat.
