Pet license plates and other Idaho news

Looking to add a little flair to the car? Good news: Pet-friendly  plates are here in Idaho.

Thanks to a new law signed by Gov. Brad Little, the plates are ready for circulation. They cost a little more — $35 for the first purchase and $25 for subsequent registrations — but that extra money goes to help spay and neuter pets in low-income households. The fees go to a foundation administered by the Idaho Humane Society.

Drivers rocking the new plates will want to take care to mind Idaho’s “move over” law, which went into effect this week. That means drivers must slow down and pull over to the side of the road for emergency vehicles with flashing lights. It also applies to tow trucks, Idaho Transportation Department workers. Passed during this year’s legislative session, the new law is now in effect with the new fiscal year.
