After weeks of upturned gravel and bare dirt, the downtown core is about to get greener.
Beginning next week, crews start work on planting new trees and landscaping along Cedar Street and First Avenue. The work follows up on this week’s efforts, which kept Cedar open to pedestrians and motorists between Second and Fifth avenues with occasional lane closures for concrete placement and the installation of street furniture.
At the request of business representatives throughout the downtown, the city will also be installing four-way stops at the intersections of Cedar Street and Third Avenue and First Avenue and Main Street.
“Staff have reviewed this from a traffic and safety standpoint and concur with this recommendation,” Sandpoint Public Works Director Amanda Wilson wrote in a construction update.
